Welcome to Beavercreek
Township Fire Department's levy Website. On Tuesday,
November 3, 2009, the Beavercreek Township Fire
Department is asking you to VOTE
YES on ISSUE #25 for the 2.0 mil
Replacement Fire
& Emergency Medical Services Levy.
What is
it?
This
is a request to replace
and combine a 1.1 mil continuing levy from 1980 and a
0.9 mil continuing levy from 1977 into a single 2.0 mil continuing
levy.
How
Much? The County Auditor estimates that this levy will
generate approximately $3,000,000 annually.
This request is a replacement which will
increase the amount of revenue by approximately $2,300,000 annually.
For the owner of a $100,000 home, the replacement levy will cost an
estimated additional $54 annually.
The additional cost will be eliminated in
2012 when the Fire Department's five year, 2.0 mil levy expires.
At that time the cost to property owners will return to their
current levels.
What
for? The 2.0 mil replacement and combination is vital to
secure long-term stability for fire department funding.
Currently one-third of the department's funding is provided by a
five-year levy. This short term levy makes it difficult to
make long-term plans and strategic goals.
The additional funds generated during the final
years of the five-year levy (which will expire in 2012) will be used
to provide funds for capital purchases for the next ten years.
These purchases will include construction of a replacement fire
station, and replacement of aging fire engines and ambulances.
Why is that
important? The Beavercreek Township Fire Department is a
modern, full service suburban fire department. Since 2001, the fire
department has experienced a 27% increase in calls for service,
jumping from 4263 in 2001 to 5447 in 2008. To continue
providing an excellent level of service, the fire department needs
high quality firefighters, facilities and apparatus.
Who does this
affect? The Beavercreek Township Fire Department
provides fire suppression, emergency medical, and fire prevention
services to both the City of Beavercreek and
Beavercreek Township. All four fire stations in Beavercreek
are owned and staffed by the Township Fire Department. Every City
and Township property owner share the cost of providing these
services.
